Remember the 2004 Vlad's will be awarded soon. We have several applicants to our team who are going through our vetting process. Some applicants have either been considered unworthy of the team or have decided it best to disqualify themselves. Remember being a part of The Impalers is and remains a privilege for only the few. We will have to work a little harder in our games to regain our rating. I ask each of you to add two more games to your personal limits so that we can achieve a higher rating earlier. The other is by the team rating. Both have their pluses and minuses, but the fact is both can be abused by selective acceptance of challenges. That is one reason that I and others have proposed a different team league setup. Only when matches are mandatory against other competors will you get a real result. If you look at the two different methods used ag GK, you find that the Impalers have three teams close to them. I have just challenged all three. They are in fourth place, with 338 points when teams are rated by "score." The Impalers have 319 points. By team rating, they are only a 1409 team (compared to Impaler's 1501). This shows the problems with the existing rating system. A team can choose to avoid difficult contests. Irish-Pete |

Once again we have proof that the existing measures for who is the best team simply don't work -- not when a team can avoid playing an excellent team. Unless there is a change in the way that the teams are measured, all we have is a joke for a rating system. Message: the only method to prove who is No. 1 would require the teams to face each other in mandatory competition. The best idea suggested to date would be to set the teams up like in the leagues. Teams would be placed in a particular dision, be required to face all other teams in their division and would then move up or down depending on the results. In that way, one could declare the No. 1 team at GK at the end of a season. Anything with voluntary competition simply won't work. When it is voluntary, a team can always search for the easy opponents and avoid the tough contests. In addition, I think that rating by total point score only shows who has played more games (as it does now), not who is the best team. By the point method, the Dutchables is well in first place with a point score of 879, but they have played 2957 games. That is a 34% rate. Vlad's Impalers has 320 points with 789 games, for a 41% rate. Should the Dutchables be considered first simply because they have played 3.75 times more games? Should a team be considered higher because it has more players than others and can therefore play more games? The answer, of course, is no. There has to be a better method for matching teams! But should it really be recognized as the 3rd best team at GK? So if it ends up at the top of division D, fine. But the 3rd best team of all teams? In a head to head match of all my active players against their top players, I really don't think it would be a serious contest. I think someone has to look at it, perhaps even run it historically, to see. But I don't believe it resolves the problem because, with a simple %, a team can still select the easy challenges and ignore the difficult ones. For example, a no. 2 team may play teams who would be in the second ten, but refuse to play the best team or the other teams who would be in the top five. Result: easy wins, good %. I don't see how a true championship can be obtained without mandatory matches. I don't see how you can really determine the top 10 spots without mandatory challenges. If this team was SO important to you, you could have waited a couple of days to get access to our site instead of acting in such a childish way!! All you had to do was to wait a few days and to ask in a polite way! And by the way; EVER heard of the invention called e-mail??? I have to kids at 10 and 12 at home, and imagine my astonishment when you find a girl at 21 being at just about the same level!! "I want it NOW, or else i stand up and SHOUT" :( Wow, GROW UP for gods sake!!
