Message: The Woodpushers, a great team, we are only just over 2 months old and are already in the top 20. Although of recent we have had unfair challenges, our captain has finally started doing very fair challenges, for example, check out the last 5 team challenges that we have accepted. As a team, we are having some members of the team that will be an instructor, they will be like a mentor coaching and improving there chess. Therefore…..it will take a lot of dedication and hard work, lots of analysis work and that will be done by both players. Therefore, I am offering a gameknot member regardless of there rating, to come and join us now, and you will be teached to play chess. Even fairly high rated players such as 1800 players can also apply, as we have a very strong team. Please reply on this forum and via our captain davism if you want to apply. Please send an application to us, and tell us why u want to improve, how much effort and dedication you will put in, to improve your game, and lots of effort to help the team. We will also want you to be very very active on our team forums and write lots of posts, you must be a hard worker.
Remember, this is a chance to join this team, and dramatically improve your game, you must send in a very good application, we are not bothered about rating but dedication. Therefore, please tell us about yourself in detail
We look forward to your application
Best regards
woodpushers

Message: This team encourages cheating. It's captain does not even have posting or messaging privileges. See the two threads in team forum dated 12/26 and 12/27
entitled "cheater....this is wrong". Stay away from this team and team captains do not play this team. They are documented cheaters.

Message: I am with you coyotefan..... my captain will not accept challenges from this team.... you can change your name..... ——— Le Quang Liem produces second shock win at Moscow Aeroflot — Moscow Aeroflot is the strongest and most fiercely competitive open chess tournament in the world, with a €20,000 first prize and nearly 50 entrants rated above 2600, the level of a high-class grandmaster. So it was remarkable that the winner in this week's Aeroflot 2011 should be the same Vietnamese teenager who scored a shock victory there in 2010. Last year Le Quang Liem won Aeroflot at 18, finished second in an elite chess event at Dortmund ahead of the former world chess champion Vlad Kramnik and soared up the world rankings. Le's hot streak then subsided until the second half of Tata Steel Wijk aan Zee last month, where he almost caught Luke McShane at the post. Now he ...

1/29/2004 02:04:26 Play online chess | Fair matches?
Message: A quote from xerox: "Although of recent we have had unfair challenges, our captain has finally started doing very fair challenges, for example, check out the last 5 team challenges that we have accepted."
OK, let's check:
Woodpushers vs Bumbling Eejits, started 28-Jan-04
cpocf (1450) vs scott1314 (1250)
davism (1387) vs yurigagarin (1248)
Woodpushers vs kool team, started 28-Jan-04
cpocf (1450) vs spud68 (1098)
davism (1387) vs uni94 (842)
Woodpushers vs Arizona Kings, started 28-Jan-04
xerox (1811) vs smartidiot (1494)
kitb (1703) vs ronman (1373)
Are these your captain's idea of fair matches? It should be obvious, what is your team's key to success. It surely is NOT "dedication and hard work, lots of analysis work". When all on GK became aware of your methods, your road to number one spot might get rocky, because nobody wants to play with you. Well, your team have achieved at least one hopefully unbroken record: a team game with a rating difference of 889 points. In my opinion, games like these are useless, because the weaker doesn't understand why he lost, and the stronger is not interested in why he won.

——— Ugandan girl, Phiona Mutesi leads chess revolution from the slums — Despite background the 15-year-old girl is already country's number two chess player and has competed at World Chess Olympiad. In a rickety church in a Ugandan slum, a girl's hand thrusts forward and a black bishop falls. The girl shows no emotion, though she knows the end is near. Striking quickly, silently, the black queen is toppled, and then the king. Only then does she smile. "You attacked too much," she tells the boy sitting opposite her on the wooden bench, a homemade board between them. Phiona Mutesi is 15. She has just finished primary school and is still learning to read. Her family is so poor they have been evicted from tiny, rented shacks more times than she ...

Message: Well done! You did forget a couple of other records they set that will be difficult to break. Most players with posting and messaging privileges banned. Most players knowing each others passwords, and of course, most spam trying to get players on other teams to leave thier team to join this cheating team. Not bad for a team less than six months old. ——— First Came the Machine That Defeated a Chess Champion — Before there was Watson, there was Deep Blue. In 1997, Deep Blue, another computer built by I.B.M., defeated the world chess champion, Garry Kasparov, in a six-game match. At the time, it was considered a stunning achievement and a significant step forward in the field of artificial intelligence. Some people said that a new era would be ushered in, one in which computers would perform many tasks — like air traffic control — that it once seemed only humans could do. That era has not quite materialized. But almost 14 years later, chess programs running on an average desktop computer can play better than Deep Blue, making its victory no longer seem as implausible. And while the research that ...

Message: Want to see what fair matches are? Check out Chuck's Knights and Cynical Cynics posts. This is what teams that do not cheat work out. ——— Chess: How to play like a world champion — The latest study of Vishy Anand concentrates on the world chess champion's outstanding strategic judgment. We'd all like to play like a world chess champion. So what's Vishy Anand doing that's so special? Last week we highlighted his depth of calculation, this week we focus on his strategic judgment. RB: I have no idea what to do here. I have no idea if Black is better or worse and I have no idea what Black's plan might be. Is the white queen trappable? It certainly looks locked in, but without a light-squared bishop it's hard to see how to exploit this. Is there anything in 1...Nc5...? No, apart from a lost piece. Opening the a-file with 1...axb4 might be an option, but ...

I've told davism he has to pair fair from now on...
Those unfair mathes were before I told this. ——— One Coach, Many Young Chess Champions — In the last five years, two Americans have won world youth chess championships: Daniel Naroditsky, who took the under-12 title in 2007, and Steven Zierk, the under-18 champion last year. Both are from Northern California, and at one point or another, they both had the same coach, Michael Aigner. They are not the only chess champions who have been trained by Aigner. Others include Gregory Young, who tied for first in the 2008 United States Junior Championship, and Yian Liou, who tied for first in the United States Cadet Championship (for players under 16) last year. He has also coached Saratoga High School to six straight California chess titles. Aigner, 36, is a master, and ...
