Here's a way to avoid getting lumbered with too many team games at the same time! (I'm speaking from the perspective of a paying member, I'm not sure if the following applies to all GameKnot members but I hope so...) 1) On the left of your screen click on the 'Preferences' button. 2) Near the bottom of the new screen that appears should be a section titled 'Max team games'. I only found this today, while investigating why I was suddenly 'unavailable' to play more games. My maximum was set to 10, which may be a standard pre-set quantity. 3) Change the number to whatever you like (unlimited is my favourite!). This means that GameKnot won't allow me to select you for challenges if you're already playing the number you'd prefer. 4) Click the 'Update' key and there you go! You have control over how many team games you play, rather than leaving it to my scribbled notes and sponge-like memory. NOTE!! There's a fairly large number of English Defenders showing as 'unavailable' at the moment, this may be because everybody has their 'Max team games' set to 10 when they don't necessarily want it to be. Please check this out chaps, and pass on the word!! (Is there any way I can send a collective message to every English Defence team member in one go on GameKnot? Sorry for my ignorance, but it would be useful if there is...) Sorry that challenges are taking a long time to become games, but this may be one of the reasons... Best regards to all, mercury_whyte |

Message: We have been sent two small challenges overnight, which I have accepted with the following English Defenders; 1) 4 player challenge accepted from SOUTHERN CHESS; parrvert icantwrite niloc vulcan72 2) 3 player challenge accepted from REGINA CATTOLICA; archbold64 parrvert tonyh Unfotunately I had to decline the players selected in reply to my challenge to the OUTBACK CHESS team, as I felt the rating differences were a little too large. This may mean the players selected against us were the only ones available to the opposing captain at the time and he selected them rather than decline the challenge himself. Also the ALEKHINE team declined our challenge, due to lack of close rating matches I expect. Never mind, you can't win them all... Remember everyone, if you feel I am overloading you with games you now have the ability to limit the maximum number of team games you'd like to play! Just click on the 'Preferences' button at the left of your screen. Further details are on my post of Jan 16th, right near the top of this page. If you set your maximum games and are currently playing as many or more than that number, GameKnot will tell me you are unavailable when I send/accept team challenges until your number of team games falls. Though It'll be probably March before I can confidently rejoin my team activities, before then I couldn't guarantee the turn around. Good to see the team is edging back after it went into reverse. Hopefully, that's a sign that the team has recovered and found a few more players with integrity and commitment. I've started a few games at 14 days, just to get the cogs turning. I tried following up one of the tournaments I played in, and got through the first round of. Unfortunately I missed the time deadline so had to resign all the games to be fair to all my opponents. Two members have left the team; owenelbuho removed himself after timing-out on some games. He sent me a message offering regrets and made reference to our position on time-outs. I replied with a message regretting his swift departure but respecting his decision. I have sent the team a collective message (I hope you all received it!). This message outlined my position on time-outs. Basically it says please contact me if it happens, it needn't be the end of the world. I have removed lover from the team over the same issue however, since he timed-out on several games a few weeks ago but has not contacted me or offered any explaination. banglaman has contacted me, letting me know that he will be leaving the team after completing his current games, due to pressure of work. I can truly sympathise with this problem, and I am sad to be losing one of our best and most consistent team players; top man on our internal leader-board. I think we will all miss you team-mate, I hope your work goes OK and maybe you'd like to return someday... On a happier note I am pleased to welcome no fewer than FOUR new players to the English Defence team! (some have been waiting a while! sorry chaps, I usually get there in the end). westbromlad, starkberlin, philbevan and bullieboy have added more strength to our middle and lower rating order, and are all equally welcome for as you know players of ALL abilities are welcome here as long as they are dedicated to our cause! I hope to have new games for them very soon... I have messed around with some ideas of a forum on the website but with it being a free acount as usual there are limitations. So I have gone back to my plan B. I have Set up a Group on aol groups which has almost no limitations (the only limitation is uplaoding pictures to the site it has 8mb limit). The Group has been set up mainly to post general msgs and have a chat and to get to know each other, As I know I have been in this team for a few months and barely know anyone.. I have waited untill I heard back from Mercury_whyte and his imput on the matter and he is happy for the group to go ahead so that we can get to know each other and raise the morale a bit. If you are not a member of aol thats not a problem as there is a short form to fill out which is free where u just create a login name for the group. I will be posting the site adress in my next msg hopefully tomorrow. I hopefully it attracts interest and makes things a bit more friendly.. cheers for now. |
