Sicilian Lovers... Help with Grand Prix I'm a relatively new player who has been playing nothing but Sicilian (black) since joining GameKnot. I've mainly played classical, and recently am trying a few dragon variations. I was wondering if any other Sicilian enthusiasts have a solid refutation against Grand Prix attack? I find myself dreading f4... From my "beating the anti-sicilians" book, it refers to the main 2 strongest lines for black lie in an early d5 or Nf6. I'm playing against an odd variation with
1. e4 c5
2. c3 Nc6
3. f4 d5
4. e5
I thought he was going into a purely c3 sicilian game, and so I was preparing to go into a dragon formation which I feel comfortable with when playing against c3. However, He then went 3. f4! Normally, I feel o.k. with playing Nf6, only if his Nc3 has been played, because then I have the option of anchoring it on e4. However, this doesn't work in a c3 system because his Nc3 has not been, and can not be played, therefore my Ne4 would be under attack after some pawn exchanges across the d-file. Therefore, I played d5 which is not a line I'm very familiar with, but I'm following through a few games in my "beating the anti-sicilian" book where d5 was played. At this point, I'm not quite sure whether to transpose into dragon (makes me nervous because of early kingside attacks using dragon, and this is surely an early kingside attack) or .... I am just curious as to whether anyone has any solid experience with these lines... Especially after an unexpected 5. e5 or any advice to a relatively new Sicilian player. Thanks!

Apologies in advance for asking about a game that I'm currently playing. I'm not looking for someone to play the game for me, just insight from a sicilian player who has seen these configurations before. Perhaps I should have waited until the game was completed.

personnal advice You should't have played 2...Nc6 in reply to the Alapin. You might consider 2...d5 or 2...Nf6 in the future. Anyway after 3.f4 my opinion is that 3...e5 should have been considered. The position isn't bad at all on you behalf anyway. The plan in this kind of position something like g6,Nh6,Bg7,Nf5,h5 not necesseraly in that order. Also you might want to delay castling with the fact that the centre is closed. Also do not rush to play d4, it was the mistake I made in a similar position.
